Iron Instructions for DTF Transfers

Whether you're using a heat press, Cricut, or iron, these steps will help you get the best results from your DTF transfers. Follow each step closely to make sure your design sticks smooth, stays vibrant, and lasts wash after wash.

1. Position Your Design

Lay your garment on a flat, heat-resistant surface. Place the DTF transfer on the desired area with the design facing up. To prevent the transfer from shifting during ironing, secure it using heat-resistant tape.

2. Press

Set your iron to the appropriate temperature for your fabric type:

  • Cotton: High heat setting (around 325°F / 163°C)
  • Polyester or blends: Medium heat setting (around 275°F / 135°C)

Ensure the steam function is turned off. Place a protective sheet, such as parchment paper or a Teflon sheet, over the transfer. Apply firm pressure with the iron for 20 seconds. For larger designs, press in sections to ensure even heat distribution.

3. Peel Hot After a Few Seconds

Allow the transfer to cool for 5–10 seconds. Then, gently peel the film while it's still warm. If any part of the design lifts, cover it again with the protective sheet and reapply heat with increased pressure.

4. Final Press

Place the protective sheet over the design once more and press for an additional 15 seconds. This step enhances the durability of the transfer and helps eliminate any residual shine.

5. How to Wash

Turn the garment inside out before washing. Use cold water and a gentle cycle. It's recommended to hang dry the garment to prolong the life of the transfer. If using a dryer, select a low heat setting and keep the garment inside out. Wait at least 24 hours after pressing before washing to allow the transfer to cure properly.
